It’s been almost a year since I made any announcement or news-related update. I figured, now with the beautiful spring weather upon us, it’s time to let the folks who read my blog know some of the things I have going on.
First, last fall/winter, I spent several months finishing and polishing up a poetry chapbook manuscript. That manuscript is, as of writing, currently in the hands of a few publishers. So far, my chapbook manuscript has been a semi-finalist in the 2024 Button Poetry Chapbook contest; however, as it was not a finalist, it was not chosen for publication. I’m hoping to see it get picked up by a publisher sometime in the near future. I will keep you posted on any updates!
Speaking of poetry, 2025 has been the year of rejections for me, and that’s okay. I’ve submitted and continue to submit several poems to literary magazines across Canada, the USA and online. Once I find out if any of my pieces have been selected for publication, you will too.
Next, I’ve decided to return to a prose project I started in January 2024. If you know me, then you know that aside from academic papers and public speeches, I’ve never been one to write much prose. But last year, after getting a great idea for a potential short story, I dedicated myself to trying my hand at writing fiction. I worked on the project for a few months, and then due to some life stuff, I had to put it down temporarily. Then, after getting the mental space and time this March, I dove back into the project.
As it sits right now, I have completed my first draft of what will potentially be a novella or novel. My lovely partner is reviewing my first draft, and I’m looking forward to getting his feedback and starting the revising/editing/drafting phase all over again. At this moment, I do not have any significant plans for this project aside from getting the damn this finished. Once I decide on a future for it, I will provide further updates.
Finally, I’ve also picked up another fiction/prose project. This one will likely be a short story of between 4,000 and 7,500 words, maybe. It’s currently a work in progress, and as of writing, I’m about halfway through the story. So there’s plenty of room and time for this one to balloon and grow like my original prose project. However, unlike the other, I plan to seek publication for this story once it is completed.
That about summarizes what’s been happening in my world of writing and publishing. I hope to have further announcements soon.
Thanks for reading.
